The thing is that even though I consider myself very cautious, I got it because I recognized your name from this forum and that put my guard down and when the message 'asked for advice', I looked at the attachment even though it had the telltale '.pif' added to the '.doc' extension.
Anyway, I really think these hackers are playing head games with us in addition to causing the computer damage. Because the mail comes from someone you know, some one whose name you recognize, it opens up the door for them. They really are 'evil' .
Anyway, I was running Norton and it minimized the hassle for me. I have had 2 or 3 other instances where it has also caught some other viruses in email. Can't live without it.
The next thing I need to do is get a firewall setup for my dsl connected computer that my daugther has. I hear that is also essential.

BTW, I like the format of this board much more than Yahoo. This system is much easier to navigate and threads are easily read.
